A READER'S OPINION
THE CROOKED PATH by Irma Joubert, set in South Africa, is a touching story of love and loss. Lettie Louw is a great character and she is matched well with her husband; their story is sweet and tender. The author is wonderfully descriptive and I was right there in the places and times with the characters. There was a lot about this story I didn't expect, and I liked that, and a few characters I had a hard time connecting with. Except, through the whole story I always liked Lettie. She did so much to change who she was in order to find love, but I wished she could have been loved for who she was rather than what she looked like. She was a character to be admired for her strength and determination.
THE CROOKED PATH has a title that mirrors Lettie's life and a strong cast of characters. The author has written a clean and compelling story set with a combination of time and place I hadn't read before. This is an enjoyable book.
