A READER'S OPINION
Sweet, wholesome, and utterly charming! PEACE IN THE VALLEY by Ruth Logan Herne is the third book in the author's Double S Ranch series. In this book, we meet the younger Stafford brother, Trey, and Lucy Carlton. Trey returns home from Nashville to help his ailing father, and perhaps discover why a guy who seems to have everything has been left with a deep yearning and sense of great loss. Neighbor to the Double S Ranch, Lucy has struggled as a single mother to keep her young family in the basic necessities. She carries a deep grudge, but she's also strong and has an exceptionally good heart and worth ethic. Trey and Lucy are a perfect pairing.
Let me just say that if there were more men on this earth like Trey Walker Stafford, chivalry would be alive, well, and probably running rampant. His charm and sincerity will make a girl's heart skip a few beats, and he only gets better as the story moves along. Lucy is admirable, and though wounded and afraid, she doesn't give up . . . on anything.
PEACE IN THE VALLEY by Ruth Logan Herne is not my typical read, but this author manages to write Christian romance without being preachy. This is one of those feel-good stories that leaves the reader with a desire to be a better person. The sweet romance is a fine thread woven throughout the book, which shows how a beautiful love story can still be clean and well-written. The characters are real people with real problems, sorrows, and dreams, and Ruth Logan Herne brought them all to life in a beautiful setting with a hopeful and inspiring message.
This third installment can easily be read as a stand-alone novel, but I'd recommend starting with book one so you don't miss out.

BOOK SYNOPSIS

Overwhelmed by a growing list of challenges, but mistrustful of Stafford men, single mother Lucy Carlton reluctantly accepts Trey’s help to revive her crumbling farm when Sam instructs him to repay the overdue debt to her family. As the two grow closer, Trey slowly begins to open his heart to this beautiful woman and strives to let go of the grief he’s held for years. Lucy has a complicated history of her own. Can Trey accept her as she is, learn to forgive the past, and find the elusive peace he's sought for so long?
