Lady Sybil Douglas, part of the notorious clan Douglas, has been abandoned to fend for herself. Her brothers are scoundrels who have used their sisters as pawns for their gain have fled for France after falling from grace with the Queen (who happens to be her brother's—Archie—wife). Sybil's life at court is in turmoil. She needs to escape Scotland but is not sure how.

Her rescue comes in the form of a hulking highland warrior, Rory Mackenzie. Rory has traveled to claim his betrothed and is in a hurry to get back to the Highlands. Sybil, having the smarts to realize this is her chance, she grabs it, even though she knows of the small detail that can void the contract, but she'll deal with it later. Rory is the half brother to the heir of the Mackenzie clan. A skilled warrior he needs to find his brother and help secure his position as Chieftain to their clan. Their uncle Hector is evil and wants the position for himself.


Running from the Queen's men and trying to avoid capture feeds the already smouldering passion for Sybil and Rory. Finally on Mackenzie land, they realize that they're not out of danger . . . someone wants them dead! Deceit, betrayal and murder is high. Will Rory and Sybil be torn apart by lies and betrayal?
